How To Get Great Abs

By admin | August 4, 2008

How to get great abs is a question I get all the time. And I get it from everyone.

Beginners want to know how to get abs fast when they first decide they want to lose weight.

But it’s true of more experienced fitness people as well.

Almost everyone struggles with dropping those last few pounds of fat, usually around the hips, love handles and lower abs.

They want to know how to get rid of those last few inches.

They want to know how to get washboard abs and go from being fit to being fabulous.

It’s important to understand that getting six pack abs has almost nothing to do with the ab exercises you perform.

Your ab workout is not the key to ripped abs. Most people’s abs are trained enough. The problem is the layer of fat covering them!

You need to burn the fat in order to see the abs. And you aren’t going to burn the fat by doing lots of crunches and leg raises.

You need to do some real training in order to reveal those washboard abs. If you want to know how to get great abs, here you go:

First, you need to know that everyone has abs. Yes, even you. You may not have seen them in awhile but they are there.

The truth is, you work your abs a lot during other exercise, especially whenever you do any type of weight training.

Your abs get worked very hard during exercises like squats, deadlifts, heavy tricep pushdowns, pullovers and more.

In fact, I’ve gotten sore abs from doing some of these exercises.

Most of us have abs that are developed. In fact, a lot of lower back injuries occur because our abs are over developed when compared to our lower back muscles.

And that imbalance causes injuries.

That’s why you see a lot of hamstring injuries by pro athletes. Their quad muscles are over developed compared to their hamstrings. It’s an injury waiting to happen.

But back to how to get great abs! Okay, so your abs probably don’t need hundreds of crunches a day. So what do you do to get washboard abs?

When doing an ab workout, it should be treated like any other muscle.

That means not overdoing the number of sets or reps. It also means making the exercise progressive and intense.

That means using weights, keeping the reps in the 12 - 25 range, and adding weight to your exercises as often as you can.

Ultimately, what you need to do to get six pack abs is to strip away the body fat.

And that means a proper nutrition program. If you want to get six pack abs you need to really clean up your diet.

The Ripped Abs Secret is:

A Proper Nutrition Program
A Proper Weight Training Program
A Proper Cardio Program Consisting of High Intensity Interval Training

Here are more nutrition tips you can use for getting six pack abs.

Increase your fiber intake. Be sure to include in your diet as many fruits and vegetables as you can.

As mentioned above, fruits and (most) vegetables are high in water and fiber content and low in calories.

Fiber has a wide variety of health benefits, both directly and indirectly (due to the loss of fat with a high fiber nutrition program).

Fiber plays a very important role in intestinal action, ie, keeping you ‘regular’. It helps flush cancer-causing substances from your body.

A nutrition program high in fiber is a vital key to any fat loss plan. If you want six pack abs, increase your fiber intake.

Fiber helps you to feel full, making it easier to eat fewer calories.

In addition, more calories are burned from digesting high fiber foods.

In fact, by increasing your fiber intake to 35 grams a day you can automatically burn an additional 250 calories.

Go crazy on vegetables. Vegetables are your best bet when it comes to losing pounds. Nature has a terrific spread when it comes to choosing vegetables.

And the leafy green vegetables are your best bet. Try to include a salad in you diet always.

Fresh vegetables are better than cooked or canned vegetables. Try to eat your vegetables raw.

When you cook them, you are in fact taking away nearly half the vitamins in them.

And canned vegetables too are processed and are not nearly half as good as fresh vegetables.

When you buy your vegetables it would be a good thing to see if the label says that it is pesticide free.

Interestingly enough, frozen veggies can have as many or more nutrients as fresh ones, because of how long it can take for vegetables to go from the farm to you, once they are picked.

To retain most of those nutrients, be sure to steam cook your vegetables, for as little time as necessary.

You can also use a fiber supplement. I use fiber-psyll by HDT. Each serving gives me 12 grams of fiber and only 55 calories. It’s a powder I mix easily in water with a lemon-lime flavor.

Make this tips a part of your “how to get great abs” program and you’ll be well on your way to your very own set of washboard abs that you can be proud of the next time you hit the beach.
