1. Stop doing endless amounts of slow go aerobics

If you really want to start burning calories and getting rid of your love handles, you need to up the intensity a bit with your cardio plan.

The good news is that you don’t have to workout for an hour, 90 minutes or more in endless monotony on the bike or treadmill.

With high intensity interval training, you can quickly finish your cardio workout in a matter of minutes.

I have cardio workouts that last all of 12 minutes (4 minutes for the warm up, 4 minutes actually working out, and a 4 minutes cool down).

The basic gist of high intensity interval training for getting rid of love handles is basically alternating a short period of all out work (say, sprinting for 20 seconds) followed by a short recovery period (say, 20 seconds of walking).

Then you perform a certain number of intervals (the number depends on the exercise and how long the interval lasts).

2. Build Muscle

In order to lose those love handles you need to boost your metabolism and burn fat faster. One big way to do that is to build muscle mass.

While you may not want huge muscles you still need to do some weight lifting exercises. At the very least, this will keep you from losing muscle as you burn fat.

If you don’t train with weights a lot of the weight you’ll lose will be muscle. If you burn a lot of muscle, your metabolism will slow down, making it even harder to lose weight. You also won’t like the way you look.

You’ll just be a skinny fat guy with lose skin. Do you want to look like a sickly marathon runner or a ripped up sprinter? I choose the sprinter’s look.

3. Stop Doing Endless Amounts of Ab Exercises

Ab exercises, such as crunches, or twists and side bends for your obliques are not going to get rid of love handles for you. Ab exercises burns very few calories.

Excess fat is your biggest problem, not underdeveloped abs.

If you want ripped abs, you need to burn fat off your body while also building muscle in your abs. That means your weight training, cardio program and nutrition are much more important than lots of ab crunches.

Add these three fat burning tips to your program and you’ll be well on your way to losing your love handles and getting a nice set of six pack abs.
