Metabolism Secrets And Fat Loss Smoothies

By admin | August 4, 2008

Almost everyone I come across is looking for metabolism secrets.

They all want to boost their metabolism and burn more calories so they can lose fat faster.

And there are metabolism secrets you can use to burn more calories each day.

And these “secrets” are pretty easy to implement.

I’ve written before about how a calorie isn’t a calorie and all calories aren’t created equal.

I won’t go into all the possibilities here about carbohydrates, different carbs, low carbs, high carbs, etc.

I’m going to focus on one simple thing you can do to help boost your metabolism and burn more calories.

So what is it?

Do you really want to know?

Okay, okay, here it is. Just relax!

Eat more protein! Not earth shattering, is it? But it is true.

Most people do not get nearly enough protein in their diet.

A big reason is because most foods that are easy to just grab and eat are either high in carbs, high in fat, or both.

Getting protein rich meals takes a little more time and planning. And most people don’t have time for that.

They want convenience.

But now you can just grab fat burning smoothies, also known as protein shakes.

For me, a quality protein powder is essential to my staying fit and getting the nutrition I need.

And protein shakes are great for women, too. I got an email from one of my readers recently asking about protein shakes.

She knows guys use them to bulk up and build muscle but she wants to lose fat.

Ladies, it’s okay to take in protein shakes! They aren’t just for “bulking up.”

In fact, a quality pure protein supplement has very few calories (about 90 to 120 calories
in a serving and you can cut that in half if you’d like).

It’s all the other stuff a man might add such as peanut butter, bananas, fruit, milk, cream, etc. that would make all the calories.

A good protein shake can be just protein and water, or a little milk, or orange juice or
water and frozen fruit.

You can completely control how many calories you have.

Plus, extra protein is a big key in losing fat. Protein boosts your metabolism and helps you burn more calories.

You see, just eating and digesting protein boosts your metabolism above and beyond eating carbs or fats.

You can burn 267% more calories by eating more protein. That’s a great metabolism secret, isn’t it?

In a study published in the American Journal of Physiology, one group was fed a high protein diet (just over one gram per pound of bodyweight per day) while the second group consumed a protein diet near equal to that of the RDA.

The group eating the high protein diet burned more fat than the group consuming protein near equal to the RDA.

One reason for this could be an increased “thermic” effect.

The thermic effect of the RDA group was elevated 16% after eating.

However, in the high protein group the thermic effect increased 42% after eating, almost 3 times (267%) that of the RDA group.

This thermic effect of digesting your food peaks approximately one hour after eating.

Spreading your daily caloric intake over 6 meals a day, eating every 2 to 3 hours, helps to take advantage of the increased metabolic rate that accompanies eating.

In other words, the more often you eat, the higher your metabolic rate, i.e. the number of calories your body burns each day.

In addition, by adding more protein to each meal, you also increase your metabolism.

Your body requires more energy (i.e. calories) to process protein than it does to digest carbohydrates.

Do you understand what that means? Think about it. Think about all those people and so called experts that have continually said that a calorie is a calorie.

This study shows you that this just isn’t true.

Your body’s metabolic rate is affected by the number of meals you eat, the frequency of those meals (how much time passes between each meal consumed) and the macro nutrient composition of those meals.

A calorie is not simply a calorie and they are not equal.

Depending on the number of meals, frequency of meals, and macro nutrient composition of meals, the same person’s metabolism will be different on two very different meals plans, even if the total number of calories consumed is the same.

So start consuming your fat burning smoothies, make sure to get good protein each meal, and start burning more calories each day so you can get your six pack abs.
